Position Summary
As an Interior Designer you will support GMHILL’s design team in the development of client workplace activities including space planning /layout, as-built drawings, furniture procurements, space study sketches/sizes/moves/restacking, illustration of workplace documents, asset management, optimization and utilization metrics data support, polyline development, reconciliation of discrete data sources to ensure consistency and quality, document management and project documentation, project data and management systems (Procore, REMS), and general administrative assignments.Key Tasks
Following is a general list of tasks falling into the areas of responsibility of the Interior Designer. It attempts to present a comprehensive, but not complete, listing of potential assignments that may be undertaken.
- Supports interior design tasks such as space planning, layout and use of furnishings or equipment, and space management.
- Maintains Real Estate documents, drawing, and design libraries for client network. Organizes and maintains the library of electronic drawings and construction documents. Scans / uploads new project drawings into document management software. Supports locating and supplying copies of documents.
- AutoCAD and Revit (and/or other facilities software) to support space planning, renovation, restacking, and moves in support of client space management.
- Prepares layouts and construction drawings. Ensures that plans conform to BOMA guidelines, local building codes, and ADA / ABA requirements. Develops conceptual design documents under the direction of Interior Design.
- Supports improvement of space management effectiveness and efficiency throughout client workplaces.
- Aids in optimization of client portfolio of owned and leased assets.
- Constructs and maintains electronic space plans based on changes in client needs, coordinates major design and alterations to space or reconfiguration of offices, coordinates office relocations, and ensures maintenance for space controlled.
- In conjunction with technical team members, evaluates the adequacy of design intent drawings and construction blueprints in meeting narrative specifications and reviews other documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with client objectives.
- Represents client interests in coordinating with the space leasing and management of GSA-provided space, including space requirements requests, facilities delegations, use of space, and related services.
- Supports project and management reporting requirements to client agency.
Education and Training Requirements:
- Bachelors in interior design or architecture, required
- NCIDQ accreditation, preferred.
- Min. 5 years of related design experience, more than 8 years preferred.
- Professional work experience with AutoCad and Revit required.
- Microsoft Office Suite, required.
- SketchUp, Enscape, or other 3D modeling software, Bluebeam Revu, Affinity or Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred.
- TRIRIGA and/or other database system development and maintenance experience preferred.
- Procore experience preferred.
- LEED AP and/or other Sustainable design accreditation preferred
Skill and Competency Requirements:
Qualified applicants at GMHILL must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents and must meet client security requirements. Positions requiring security clearance are open to U.S. citizens only.
- Maintains knowledge of current design trends, products, materials, furnishings, building codes, and client needs and requirements. Maintains knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, spreadsheet, database, and Microsoft Office Suite. Produces files in various formats for transmission to associates, consultants, and clients.
- Design - Knowledge of design principles, techniques, and tools involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models, as well as BOMA standards.
- Quantitative abilities adequate to relate spaces in both image and quantifiable (square footage, cost/SF, USF vs NSF, etc.) measures in support of space utilization analysis.
- Design plans to be safe and compliant with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) or Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), as appropriate.
- Use computer-aided drafting (CAD), Revit, and related software to support interior design needs of clients and staff professionals.
- Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
