About Us:

The Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC) and Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) have partnered with the Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC) to establish the Innovation Hub at Garden of the Gods. The Innovation Hub offers a suite of services in a collaborative environment to bring government, academic, FFRDC, and industry personnel together. This collaborative initiative supports the U.S. Space Force's and SSC's vision to deliver commercial space capabilities to support global mission priorities and joint warfighters.

About You:

Level up your data science and data engineering skillsets by learning and engaging in a variety of tasks that support our mission under the supervision of our Senior Data Scientist. In this paid internship, you will gain knowledge and experience working with AWS GovCloud for data science and data engineering, exposure to real-world problems being worked on in the air force, space force, and DoD domains, and networking and expert talks with members of industry, government, and academia.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Gather user requirements
• Research cutting-edge data science techniques and tools in the space domain
• Build basic cloud infrastructure in AWS
• Support users from government, academia, and industry
• Some maintenance of lab laptops
• Support and maintenance of 3D printers
• Support networking events

Required Education, Certification, Skills, Capabilities:

• Pursuing education in the fields of computer science, data science, data engineering, information systems, or related fields

Desired Education, Certification, Skills, and Capabilities:

• Understanding of foundational concepts in data science and data engineering
• Grasp concepts quickly and have a thirst for knowledge
• Experience working in the US Air Force or US Space Force is a bonus but not required

Primary Work Location:

• Work is to be performed onsite in Colorado Springs, CO

Salary Range:

• $25 hourly
