Job Description

We are seeking three Mine Engineer or Civil Engineer Interns at Minnesota Ore Operations.The Internship affords the opportunity to apply educational experiences to real world engineering principals.This position is a temporary full-time position for the summer of 2025 and will be located at our mine operations in Mountain Iron, MN and Keewatin, MN. At these facilities, iron-bearing rock called taconite is mined and processed into iron ore pellets for use in U. S. Steel's steelmaking facilities. This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Report directly to mine managers and work along-side the mine engineering department to improve production at Minntac.
• Utilize mine planning software to evaluate the short-range mining plan.
• Work with the Drill and Blast Coordinator to layout and execute the mine blasts.
• Coordinate the movement of drill core to permanent storage locations and prepare for assay.
• Assist with mining reclamation projects. Design Dumps and roads that meet the mine plan.
• Work with drone data to update maps and aerial images as necessary.
• Develop and monitor the field improvement projects.

• Candidates must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mine Engineer, Civil Engineer, Geology, Geotechnical Engineer, or Mineral Process Engineering.
• Candidates must be a current student and have completed their sophomore year by June 2025 and be in good academic standing.
• Must have at least a 2.75 GPA, will accept 2.5 with experience.
• Be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
