The internal medicine team will be led by Dr Gideon Daniel, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM). The medicine team offers a collaborative service within AVC to work with the surgery and urgent care department, as well as veterinarians in the referral community. Common procedures and treatments include abdominal ultrasound/FNAs, endoscopy (multiple size flexible GI scopes, flexible ureteroscopes, bronchoscopes and rigid scopes for cystoscopy and rhinoscopy), CTs and some minimally invasive procedures (such as PCCLs, polypectomies, transurethral bulking agents for incontinence). Dr Gideon has special interest in nephrology/urology (as he’s completed a fellowship in nephrology and dialysis) and endocrinology.

As an Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians, you will:
- Review medical records, prep for internal medicine appointments and procedures. Other administrative tasks such as client callbacks, medications refills, preparing estimates, invoicing (although the service will have their own dedicated coordinator that will share much of the administrative tasks).
- Induce, maintain, and monitor patients under anesthesia.
- The internal medicine candidates will work alongside urgent care/hospitalization technicians and assistants in providing patient care for inpatients.
- Assist with procedures, cleaning, and maintenance of endoscopic and ultrasound equipment.
- The service will have dedicated technician appointments, the candidate should feel comfortable working independently with these appointments ((which may involve client education and demos for insulin administration, using feeding tubes, glucose (traditional or interstitial)) curves, SQ fluids.
- Perform diagnostic imaging including digital radiographs, CT scans and basic laboratory tasks (running blood work, prepping, and reviewing microscopic slides). Processing and packing samples for diagnostic lab (including digital cytology).
Expectations / Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required. Previous experience working in a specialty/referral hospital preferred.
- Proficient in drug calculation and strong anesthetic skills.
- The candidate should be confident with phlebotomy, placing iv catheters, nasogastric tubes, radiographs, processing in house labs.
- The ideal candidate should be comfortable with standard anesthetic protocols, induction, maintenance, and monitoring of anesthesia.
- Display competency in general knowledge and nursing skills required to care for patients.
- As necessary, help with cleaning the procedure room, instruments and the setting up and breakdown of the procedure room.
- Must be comfortable to work on their feet, able to keel, bend to work with surgery patients. Adequate breaks will be provided (however will have times of being on your feet at times).
- Applicant should be able to lift patients and inventory up to 40 pounds.
- There will be some on-call responsibilities, however we do offer a competitive incentive for both being on call and when called in.
