The client is an advisory firm that unlocks capital for sustainable growth in underserved markets, focusing on clean energy access and nature-based solutions. They provide transaction and strategy advisory services to investors, fund managers, companies, donors, and governments.
The client has secured a six-month contract with the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and is seeking an Associate Principal-level consultant to support the DFC's OCI Financial Risk mandate. The role is 100% remote, with a preference for candidates located in the same time zone as Washington, DC. The selected consultant will be expected to work in EST hours. The candidate must be a US citizen with at least 7 years of experience in climate finance, project structuring, or Development Finance Institution (DFI) work. The consultant will be seconded to the DFC for 6 months.

Deliverables
- Conduct Reviews, Analysis, and Processing Data (50%): Analyze large datasets from DFC’s portfolio and pipeline.
- Review DFC policies related to risk, credit, investment, and development impact.
- Collect information via interviews with management and key stakeholders to assess risk appetite and resource availability.
- Research industry standards and benchmarks for deploying catalytic investments, including concessional finance.
- Synthesize and summarize findings in a comprehensive written report. Prepare Guidelines and Develop Standards for Catalytic Transactions (50%): Develop an informational guide outlining the landscape of catalytic investment finance structures, products, vehicles, and their potential use cases.
- Create a comprehensive risk framework to guide DFC staff in evaluating the risks and returns of potential catalytic investments.
- Collaborate with DFC to create strategic investment guidelines, including the appropriate use of concessional finance.
Requirements
Experience required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in investment management, development finance, and/or strategy consulting in emerging markets. Experience conducting due diligence and risk analysis of impact investments addressing critical development challenges.
- Previous work with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) is essential. Preferred experience in the impact investing ecosystem, including knowledge of catalytic capital, impact themes, and structuring innovative transactions.
- Familiarity with legal terms related to investment structuring.
Technical requirements
- Expertise in analyzing large datasets, particularly related to investment portfolios and pipelines.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex data and create written reports and guidelines.
- Ability to review and understand risk, credit, investment, and development impact policies.
- Ability to develop comprehensive risk frameworks and investment guidelines for catalytic transactions.
Soft skills
- Strong written communication skills in English, particularly in collecting and synthesizing information from management and stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders (including DFC staff).
- Reliability and attention to detail when conducting reviews and preparing reports.
