About the Job
- Understanding of Process Integration of Silicon or Compound Semiconductor Technologies
- Evaluating materials and developing processes to manufacture materials for use in products that meet specialized design and performance specifications
- Designing and directing the testing and control of processing procedures
- Developing new or modified process formulations, defining processing and handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviewing processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products
- Evaluating technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
- Coordinating design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of processing methods
- Reviewing new product plans and make recommendations for material selection, based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost
- Compiling and evaluating test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications
- Analyzing product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
- Conceiving and planning projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes
The ideal candidate will possess the following education and experience:
- BS in Material Science, Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline; Graduate degree (MS or PhD) preferred. Equivalent industry experience in broad based breadth of experience including extensive fab experience across a diverse range of fab processes with a strong emphasis on ion implantation can substitute for advanced degree.
- Alternate fab processes of comparable experience:
- Etch - particularly plasma etch, sputter
- Physical Vapor Deposition - (PVD) since this includes many of the same technical background that is used in ion implantation
- An advanced technical degree may substitute for some years of industry experience.
- Alternate fab processes of comparable experience:
- Ancillary fab experience desired but not required:
- Lithography
- Diffusion
- Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)
- Plasma Enhanced CVD
- Electrical or Parametric Test/Evaluation
- 10 years+ of experience in ion implantation or semiconductor processes strongly desired.
- Strong proficiency in SPC.
- Language Fluency: Strong communication skills with fluency in English Language, written & verbal.
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, energetic and self-starter.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization and experience in working with external constituencies.
- Strong organizational skills along with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business need.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments. Individuals will be and must be able to understand complex automated systems and human interactions.
- Perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all information.
- Comply with current and updated policies and procedures.
- Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

This job requires that an individual encounter raw materials, products, equipment / machines, software or technology controlled by the Export Administration Regulations or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. The job must be filled by a U.S. person, or a person for whom a valid export control exception has been obtained, or is not required, from the U.S. Government.

This is a highly visible technical position with responsibilities that will include process engineering, applications engineering, equipment engineering, technical business development, and research and development activities. The position will work with senior management to develop additional product offerings for the market as well as provide input regarding acquisitions and technical investments. This position will interact regularly with senior level customer technologists and management to achieve challenging process outcomes. Additionally, this position will attend or present at technical seminars, trade shows or symposiums.The position of Principal Engineer requires a great deal of theoretical knowledge in material science and physics principles and how these are applied in ion implantation and the semiconductor manufacturing process.
