REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Director, Cardiac Invasive Lab and has no direct reports.
POSITION SUMMARY
Functions as a technical specialist providing direct clinical care to Cardiac, Vascular and Neuro patients, under the direction of a cardiologist, neuro interventionalist or vascular surgeon. Assists in performance of all procedures, sets up and operates specialized equipment, and prepares suite for intricate procedures in a procedural environment. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician, and employee satisfaction. Ensures decisions made are based upon Family Centered Care philosophy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*
1. Demonstrates expertise in cardiac invasive lab devices and equipment.
2. Functions as a support specialist within the technologist role in the Cardiac Invasive Lab.
3. Assists physicians with all invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures.
4. Responsible for setting up and operating all clinical and computer equipment pertaining to the care of the patient in the lab.

- Operate and provide technical support for the following: a. Cardiac Catheterization Cases

- Structural Heart (Surgery) cases
- Neuro Interventional procedures
- Vascular Interventional procedures
- Operation of fluoroscopy system within state guidelines
- Radiation safety to include monitoring and logging of dosages and understand operational safety for patients and staff.
- Point of Care testing
- Other equipment as assigned

- On-Call as needed for STEMI at TTH, MRH, TFL and NEURO Interventional programs.
- Analyze electrocardiograph data, and hemodynamic monitoring for all cases.
- Sets up and scrubs in to assist physicians in invasive procedures and device implants, abiding by SCAI guidelines of sterile technique.
- Performs after-care of surgical instruments.
- Understands and demonstrates proper Universal Protocol.
- Provides and promotes education, consultation to other members of the Cardiac Invasive team as applicable.
- May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations to/within patient are areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure.
- Assures proper preventative and corrective maintenance for all equipment.
- Maintains appropriate inventory control within labs, paying attention to workforce management and supply use.
- Prepares and assists with patients undergoing procedures including clerical and safe patient transport responsibilities.
- Turns over procedure room following procedures, including appropriate disposal of potential biohazard materials, safe and appropriate handling of reusable supplies and preparation of reusable supplies for sterilization.
- Assists with orientation of novice team members within the department.
- Performs Basic and Advanced Life Support measures when necessary, including defibrillation.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of all hospital-related information in accordance with HIPPA.
- Accountable to adhere and abide by all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Completes all annual mandatory testing and competencies as directed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree in health-related science or Bachelor of Science Degree.
Skills: Completion of an accredited program in cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology or equivalent education and experience. Previous patient care experience. Knowledge of hemodynamics and cardiovascular anatomy and physiology. Must be able to cope with stressful situations and handle deadlines in a demanding, fast paced medical environment. Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries, utilize effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to input and retrieve computer information, work with monitors, radiology, and other digital equipment. Completion of ACLS within 6 months of hire and prior to taking solo call.

Certification: RCIS, RCES, General X-ray operator, and BLS (Basic Life Support)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor of Science
Skills: Experience with Claris recording system; Experience with mapping and ablation systems, EMR documentation.
Years of Experience: Experience in Cardiac Catheterization Lab or EP lab
License: N/A
Certification: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Lead vest, kilt, thyroid collar. Also, hat, mask and shoe covers required in department.
Physical Demands: Able to move about hospital and between workstations. Prolonged periods of standing while wearing heavy protective garments; able to tolerate exposure to radiation, chemicals, blood borne pathogens and bodily fluids; Moving, lifting, stooping and/or carrying moderate weight and objects and materials as required by position.
