Responsibilities
This position is responsible for all activities with monitoring and preparing in- house Panel cells inventory, as well as freezing, storing, and recovering red cell samples. This will position will also assist in the operation of the Laboratory by performing Quality Control checks on equipment, chemicals, enzymes and reagents.
- Prepare in-house red cell panel, including papain-treatment and quality control testing after preparation.
- Maintain records for freezing and recovering of red cell droplets as needed.
- Coordinate call in, retrieval and aliquot freezing of panel cell donor units.
- Perform equipment QC, maintenance and cleaning as needed.
- Maintain Laboratory area and equipment in an organized and clean condition.
- Prepare simple solutions, enzymes and other chemicals.
- Perform quality control with appropriate controls for all tests performed.
- Releases antigen negative RBCs to appropriately fill blood orders from client hospitals with supervision.
- Select and verify antibody positive donors in the lab data base.
- Locate and sample the product for submission to other facilities for evaluation.
- Test donor samples for rare antigen to identify rare donors.
- Maintain legible, accurate and up to date records. Maintains the records of the outside facility storage.
- Perform administrative functions and provide support to the laboratory that includes preparation and processing reports.
- Provide administrative support and maintains Standard Operating procedures for the laboratory and other suitable projects.
- Follows general policies of NYBC and takes on other duties and responsibilities as may be appropriate to the overall aims of the laboratory.
- Maintains general office supplies and inventory, distributes supplies to staff, maintains logs, and completes requisitions for supplies/special orders and follows-up on missing or late materials/orders.
- Responsible for appropriate use of laboratory reagents, laboratory equipment and other resources.
- Prepares, processes, and maintains various records and reports.
- Makes recommendations to improve services and processes in business unit.
- Any related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in laboratory related science
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hiring rate is $22.41p/hr. to $25.00p/hr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
