Position Description:
Primarily responsible for the IT project management of the following system replacement projects: Message Switch System (Client) Replacement and Computerized Criminal History (CCH) Modernization. The Client is a centralized hub/router through which information between state and federal agencies is transmitted. It is a 24/7 mission critical system that allows law enforcement to query information. The CCH is a repository of criminal history data that is reported by local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies. Both projects are running in parallel and are estimated to last 30 months. Both projects include a variety of interfaces. Serves as the IT lead for the project and responsible for the overall coordination, status reporting, and stability of project-oriented work efforts. Works within the established IT project management framework to track project progress, produce required documentation, adhere to high quality standards, and meet customer expectations. Supports and maintains responsibilities of IT projects, to include, but not limited to: identifying/tracking scope, timelines, requirements, deliverables, tasks, risks, issues, changes, testing; reviewing both technical and non-technical documentation; scheduling meetings; and providing meeting notes and action items. Responsible for coordinating communication, identifying and escalating issues, and making decisions as appropriate. Ensures coordination, integration, security, and uptime. Adheres to agency policy. Works with cross-functional teams including: IT operations units (network, system administration, development, etc.); Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) business unit partners; and vendor partners. This is an individual contributor role without human resource management responsibilities (e.g., hiring, performance management). The position reports to the manager of the IT Project Management Office. Manages two projects of medium to high complexity with the potential for additional project assignments of low to medium priority.
Skills Required:
Intermediate professional level role. Must possess knowledge of and proficiency in project management processes. Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly as applied to writing professional documents, email communication, sharing project information, and leading meetings. Knowledge of general IT principles and technology as needed to comprehend material and communicate with technical and non-technical personnel. Must possess knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft suite of products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.
Skills Preferred:
Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of stakeholders and team members, including technical, business, and vendor partners. Ability to build rapport and gain/maintain trust. Experience Required:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of project management experience.
Experience Preferred:
- Typically has 3-5 years of IT work experience.
- Experience with projects in multiple technologies and functions.
- Experience managing projects with extended duration.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any major or equivalent work experience.
Education Preferred:
- Project management certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum.
