Position Overview:
The successful candidate will join a small, highly motivated team of IT professionals responsible for the testing, installation, upgrade, and maintenance of all national and local court computer systems and applications. The incumbent will support specialized systems and provide technical support to thirty-one court staff users and four bankruptcy judges. Our main offices and courtrooms are in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota and our divisional offices are in Duluth and Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
The incumbent will primarily provide support and maintenance for servers, users, telephone systems, Help Desk tickets, IT Security programs, audio and video equipment, and other courtroom technology. The primary duty station will be at the St. Paul courthouse, with regular travel to the Minneapolis courthouse. Occasional travel to the courthouses in Duluth and Fergus Falls is also required. This position reports directly to the IT Supervisor.
Representative Duties:
- Provides in-person and remote technical assistance to all Minnesotas Bankruptcy Court judges and the clerks office staff.
- Position is responsible for managing backups, disaster recovery, and solving connectivity issues across all network systems.
- Administers user accounts, permissions, and policies applied via Active Directory.
- Performs systems administration tasks, including server configuration, group policy administration and user account administration.
- Participates in the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of data backup and recovery procedures and practices including network performance, security, end point protection, web usage/monitoring, design and acquisition of servers, switches, and other related components.
- Triages and resolves server failures, to include identifying root causes, recommending remediations, and establishing future preventative measures.
- Performs systems management functions to deploy agents, scripts, patching, and operating system images for endpoints.
- Assists with automated management systems for development and deployment of system images. Develops and maintains current and working standardized images.
- Assists with technical support and maintenance of telephone systems, courtroom technology, mobile technology, and audio/visual systems, as required.
- Prepares written procedures for users and IT staff. Provides training on the use and support of computer systems and programs.
- Creates and maintains systems documentation. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, the applicant must have two years specialized experience, including at least one year of work that includes, but is not limited to, providing computer and systems support, server and computer setup, computer systems configuration, patching and troubleshooting, or network support, network systems monitoring, backup and recovery.
Specialized experience is progressively responsible experience that is in, or closely related to, the work of the position that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This includes progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of network, servers and computers related applications, terminology and methodology including project assignments that involved network related maintenance and technical support.
This position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and the physical mobility to access equipment wherever it may be positioned (e.g., under desks, on racks, etc.).
Strong troubleshooting abilities and customer service skills are mandatory.
Travel between divisional offices is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those candidates who possess significant operational and technical experience relative to the installation, configuration, and support of Windows Server operating systems (extensive experience with Windows Server 2016 and above preferred), Microsoft Active Directory (including administration of users, file servers, group policies, DNS and DHCP services), and Windows 10/11 desktop operating systems; enterprise administration/management and deployment utilities (such as PowerShell and VB Scripting); and VMware vCenter/ESXi virtualization. Preference will also be given to those candidates who have extensive knowledge and experience implementing, managing, and supporting networking hardware, topologies, and protocols including Cisco iOS. Experience implementing and supporting physical server hardware, storage area networks, and data backup devices and supporting software. Experience with audio and video equipment and technologies is also desired.
Preference will also be given to candidates whose work experience provides evidence of strong customer service skills; the ability to work cooperatively with clients, team members, and managers; the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; and the ability to follow an assigned project through to completion. A bachelors degree in computers science from an accredited university or college is also preferred.

All employees of the court are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees, which is available for review upon request. In addition, the successful applicant will be hired subject to a probationary period of no less than six months.
