About the Job
Job Responsibilities:
Position Summary: Responsible for conducting extensive criminal background checks by using local and national resources to submit Public Safety Assessment (PSA) reports to Court officials to assist in making release decisions.
Essential Functions:
- Determine the list of individuals requiring a report for their scheduled bail review.
- Complete criminal histories via Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA).
- Complete criminal histories via National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
- Produce and deliver PSA Reports to Public Defender, Assistant District Attorney, and Court Commissioner.
- Assist Pretrial Supervision Program by conducting follow-up interviews on those incarcerated in the jail about posting bail and participation in the supervision program.
- Complete Risk Assessment based on criminal history, charge type and other risk factors to assist in determining flight risk and community safety.
- Answer questions during the bail review hearing that court officials may have regarding the PSA risk score.
- Enter demographic information into online CRC form for statistical tracking.
- Attend court daily to answer any questions the Court may have regarding the PSA reports.
- Provide Program Director with daily court notes.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend local or national conferences and training sessions as budget and time allows.
- Assist with other WCS programs, events or activities as needed.
- Other job-related duties may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
Job Qualifications:
Minimal Qualifications:
- An Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field. Work experience could be considered in lieu of a degree, or actively working on a degree within the justice field.
- Must be able to pass the jails required background check for clearance into the jail.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work within time constraints; strong verbal and written communication skills; dependability; Ability to work in a jail setting; independent worker. Must be trained in the all WCS applicable Evidence Based Principals within 90 days of hire and follow models for fidelity established by the agency.
Other Job Information (if applicable):
Work Relationship and Scope: Reports directly to the Pretrial Screening Supervisor. Has contact with Public Defender, Assistant District Attorney, Court Commissioners, Jail staff, individuals housed in the jail, as well as WCS staff.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in Waukesha County. Average hours worked is 40 per week to include some weekend time (alternating Sundays).
Physical Demands: Ability to communicate verbally. Have excellent hand and finger dexterity for data entry and typing.
