Job Title: Janitorial Supervisor

Salary: Starting salary $4,123.00 monthly - commensurate with experience.
Overview:
Plans, supervises, and evaluates the work and performance of night-shift janitors under jurisdiction of the Secretary of State’s Office; coordinates the activities of janitors and janitorial waxing crews assigned to multiple facilities; may converse with occupying departments in correcting complaints regarding upkeep and maintenance provided by Secretary of State’s night-shift janitorial crew; prepares nightly reports on janitorial work at each facility and submits weekly reports to the Executive IV; maintains a janitorial supply inventory and an equipment inventory and makes recommendations for equipment needed for the efficient operation of a preventative maintenance program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, supervises and evaluates the activities of the night-shift janitorial crews under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State’s Office; makes nightly site visitation to assure night-shift janitorial and wax crews are completing assignments and informing them of additional assignments which need to be completed on their shift.
- Schedules and distributes work assignments for night-shift janitorial and waxing crews; follows up on assignments to ensure timely completion of work and prepares nightly reports for each building; works in coordination with Custodial Services Administrative staff identifying areas in the Capital Complex which require attention of the night-shift janitorial and waxing crews.
- Maintains janitorial supplies for wax crew and maintains an accurate account of janitorial equipment inventory for night crew and wax crew; submits janitorial equipment transfer reports to Property Control when necessary; makes minor repairs and adjustments to all cleaning equipment.
- Maintains attendance records for janitorial staff when needed; responsible for training new janitorial staff; attends monthly staff meetings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of experience in the janitorial field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Requires ability to organize work details.
- Requires ability to maintain simple records and make reports.
- Requires ability to direct the work of student workers.
- Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Requires meeting physical examination and drug screening requirements.
- Requires ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.
- Requires working knowledge of the operation and care of electric sweepers, mop wringers, brushes and other household equipment.
- Requires working knowledge of the materials, equipment, and methods commonly employed in the office cleaning operations.
- Requires ability to train others in janitorial operations.
- Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class.
- Requires ability to lift up to 75 pounds, carry up to 25 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Requires willingness to travel.
