Under general supervision from the Line Crew Supervisor, performs skilled Journey level duties in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution lines. |
Performs all duties of a journey line worker in the installation, repair and maintenance of dead or energized overhead and underground power lines using protective cover as needed along with insulated hot sticks. Installs repairs and maintains transformers, lightning arresters, fuses cutouts, etc. Maintains repairs, performs switching and upgrades of the distribution system. Makes service connections to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Trims trees and other obstructions which interfere with power lines. Assists in training of apprentice line workers. Practices all required safety procedures in accordance with safety code and regulations. Trouble shoots power outages, analyzing equipment failure and making repairs. Operates light or heavy equipment which is job related. Performs the Line Crew Supervisor's responsibilities during their absence. Shall take troubleshooters On-call responsibility several times a year, for a period of seven days each time, as determined by the assignment schedule adopted by the department. Must be generally available and respond to emergency "call-outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Must live within 30 minutes of the Springville Power Operation Center. Assists metering department with monthly shut-off. Must be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision. Must be team oriented with a positive work attitude. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. |

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by the completion of an apprenticeship and journey level power lineman certification. Must maintain continuing education as needed. Must live within 30 minutes from Springville Power Operation Center. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES ? Shall have basic knowledge of Microsoft operating programs (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook) ? Ability to communicate verbally and in written form. ? Shall have knowledge of Journey level Line worker skills. ? Shall be able to use the variety of tools and equipment necessary in line work, i.e., hot-line tools, line and bucket truck, etc. ? Shall be able to operate a backhoe, bucket truck, digger-derrick truck, and other utility equipment. ? Shall have knowledge of OSHA, NESC and APPA, job procedure safety regulations. ? Shall have working knowledge of job and safety procedures. ? Shall be pole climbing certified. ? Shall be bucket truck rescue certified. ? Shall be pole top rescue certified. ? Shall be CPR certified. ? Shall be first aid certified. ? Shall be AED certified. ? Shall have ability to teach others how to perform departmental work. ? Shall possess valid Utah CDL license and shall maintain appropriate driving record. ? Shall know how to trim trees properly from around power lines. ? Shall pass a drug test and be fit for duty. ? Shall be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature extremes, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually high. |
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to meet DOT hearing standard requirements. |
