Journeyman Electrician - Kuparuk Project Services - E&I Group
JOB SUMMARY:
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing the full range of journey-level electrical duties including the installation and maintenance of industrial electrical systems and temporary drilling rig power systems. This position works with low and medium voltage systems (13.8KVA and 34.5KVA) and performs all work in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical panels, electrical outlets, light switches, lighting fixtures, electrical wiring, fuses, and other components of an electrical system.
- Set up medium voltage power systems for Drilling Rig electrification.
- Testing medium voltage systems up to 34.k KV, using High Potential VLF testing equipment.
- Ability to inspect and maintain medium voltage equipment such as hot sticks, touch meters, proximity testers, fiberglass extending poles, rated gloves and sleeves.
- Willingness to install and demobilize temporary equipment for drilling rig power system. Including pulling cable, setting up mobile substations, switching trailers and cable spooling units.
- Make up of termination kits such as stress cone load breaks and dead breaks.
- Experience with 4160KVA Variable Speed AC drives for downhole pumps preferred.
- Able and comfortable to install and remove live fuses for medium voltage systems.
- Plan the layout and wiring of new or modified installations.
- Installing and maintaining heat trace equipment. Working knowledge of constant wattage and self-regulating systems.
- Installing cable tray systems in cold environments.
- Ability to tow, stage, and back gooseneck and bumper pull trailers. Duties will include disconnecting and connecting trailers to various hitching systems.
- Review conduit drawings, schematics, electrical drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements.
- Operate electrical equipment and tools such as hydraulic benders, knockout punch sets, cable pullers, volt meters, and testers.
- Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
- Applicants must have an in depth background and understanding of Classified and Zone Rated Electrical Systems.
- Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
- Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of four (4) years or 8,000 hours related training and experience.
- State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness in appropriate classification required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification or able to obtain prior to hire (training provided).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.
- Current NFPA 70E Certification required or must be able to obtain if employed.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE
While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.
