United Cooperative Services has an open position for a Journeyman Lineman in our Mansfield Operations Department.
Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR and Class A CDL. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. This is a career job with progressive pay and an outstanding benefit package. This non-exempt position starts at $52.15 per hour.
This position has a 30 minute response time requirement to the Mansfield facility.

This position performs all types of electric line construction, retirement and maintenance with or without supervision, under hazardous and non-hazardous conditions.
Performs all types of electric line construction, retirement and maintenance on energized and de-energized lines, with or without supervision, in conformance with Cooperative specifications.
Supervises a line crew. Plans, lays out and explains jobs assigned and assumes responsible for completing them in a safe, economical and efficient manner as assigned by Division Foreman.
Makes all necessary reports concerning duties, both oral and written.
Checks on consumer complaints, finds and performs maintenance on lines, including underground distribution, during outages. Locates and corrects individual outages as assigned.
Supervises adequate stocking of line material on vehicles and checking in and out material for jobs to be done.
Informs proper individuals of work done, including changes from specifications on staking sheets.
Constantly looks out for hazardous and unsafe conditions on the distribution system. Makes minor repairs, if possible, or reports them to proper individuals.
As a member of the supervisory/management team, this position is responsible for the provision of a full range of supervisory activities including but not limited to the selection, training and evaluation of section personnel, planning and the completion of special projects as delegated.
Adhere to encourage United safety policies and procedures and offer recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Consumer-Members: Courteously answers member inquiries, and, if unable to do so, directs them to the appropriate person, making every effort to gain their increased understanding and acceptance of the Cooperative's plans, programs and policies.
Other Utilities: Maintains contact with other utilities during construction and maintenance activities.
Brazos Electric Power Cooperative: Maintains good working relationships to ensure substations and transmission facilities are operated and efficiently and effectively.
Public Officials: Works with and assists State Highway Department, County Precinct
Supervisors, Sheriffs Dept, and Highway Patrol when necessary. Works with City inspection personnel to enable jobs to be completed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; and successful completion of Lineman training. Must have at least five years experience as a Lineman or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must acquire within a reasonable time span knowledge of appropriate cooperative safety rules and regulations, RUS Material Specifications, policies and procedures pertaining to their respective job assignments. Safety rules and regulations are detailed in the TJ&S Loss Control Program Safety Handbook, the American Public Power Association Safety manual and the National Electric Safety Code.
Equipment Operated: Operates assigned equipment including bucket, bulldozer, forklift, backhoe, trencher, winches, drills, chainsaws and high compression tools. Must have a current Texas commercial driver’s license (CDL) without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Abilities and Skills: Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Required to write simple correspondence. Requires ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to apply simple mathematics and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Requires ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to deal with a variety of people in varying situations with tact and diplomacy.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is frequently required to stand; walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions: This position is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
