This position is new at the YMCA of the Roses! We are open to applicants who have at least 2 years in an accounting role that want to work at a nonprofit organization serving both York and Lancaster Counties.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Junior Accountant maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and coordinates intermediate level accounting functions such as accounts payables, general ledger/account maintenance, account reconciliation, data processing and reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- ACCOUNTANT (DEBITS)
Accounts Payable
- Prepares monthly YMCA invoices and maintains Accounts Payable sub ledger within Financial Edge, and AppFolio.
- Review and match purchase orders with invoices while reviewing financial agreements for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to budget and forecast.
- Negotiates cost savings with vendor selections and coordinates such with management
- Selection of invoices for payment based on due dates and preparation of disbursement reports for approval. Print and distributes checks and initiates electronic transfers once approved.
- Communicate with vendors and YMCA management to resolve billing and payment inquiries
- Recommends procedures to improve Accounts payable reporting and ensure cash availability for payment runs for the YMCA and affiliated entities.
- Responsible for Aged Payable reports in Financial Edge and AppFolio.
- Reconciles Accounts Payable report detail and control accounts to the balance sheet
- Responsible for the tracking and submission of State sales and use tax.
General Accounting
- Performs general ledger account analysis and reconciliation of assigned account and prepares reconciliation adjustments and posts adjusting journal entries to Financial Edge and AppFolio.
- Prepares documentation and supporting schedules for annual audit of accounts payable, contracts, lease agreements, fixed assets, and other accounts that may be assigned
- Responsible for preparation and distribution of accurate IRS Form 1099s
- Adhere to internal controls and procedures in accordance with accounting standards, federal, and state financial requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts.
- Responsible for the adherence of staff to the record retention policies of the YMCA.
- Assist Corporate Office staff with other projects and tasks as assigned.
Property Accounting
- Pays out rent deposits as required.
- Responsible for check runs for Property Groups
- Back up for accurately posting rent payments, late fees in property management software
Assets Accounting
- Responsible for the tracking and submission of unclaimed property to the Commonwealth
- Records, reconciles, and assists with review of YMCA financial lease agreements

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in accounting/ related field plus at least 1 year of accounting experience, OR equivalent work experience of a minimum of 2 years in an accounting role.
- Knowledge of and expertise in computerized accounting systems and sound working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing
- Efficient problem-solving skills
- Must be highly organized and could work with confidential matters
