Jr. Software Engineer

Hybrid 2-3 days onsite/week in McLean, Virginia Salary Range: $75-85k/year

Our client in the K-12 education sector is seeking a dedicated Software Engineer to design, develop, and test high-quality backend and integration software solutions. This role plays a key part in building educational tools and learning systems, ensuring timely and efficient product delivery. You'll be brought in to support a variety of initiatives spanning across several different key operational areas that are critical in ensuring the systems and processes are running smoothly and are up to par with client/stakeholder and internal expectations, etc.

Position Overview:
The Software Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including fellow software engineers, QA/test engineers, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will actively contribute innovative ideas to improve current and future product development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and test software solutions tailored for K-12 learning environments.
• Build and manage RESTful web services using NodeJS.
• Utilize various Amazon Web Services (AWS) to create, deploy, and maintain application environments.
• Implement best practices for source code management, including branching and merging strategies with Git across multiple applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and production-related problems.
• Assist with user interface design and development.
• Work collaboratively with developers, testers, and product owners to meet project goals.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Proven experience in developing solutions based on open standards: web services, web applications, and modern UI frameworks.
• Demonstrable expertise in implementing features across the software development lifecycle.
• Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, addressing complex coding challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL proficiency.
• Experience working with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB.
• Solid background in NodeJS development.
• Familiarity with core AWS services including S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, EC2, CloudFront, and Redshift.
• Hands-on experience with AWS API and Git version control.
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments.
• Ability to pass federal and state background checks (FBI/BCI).

• Independent thinker capable of contributing effectively without extensive direction.
• Strong team player with the ability to perform well under pressure.
