Junior Power Systems Engineer - Idaho National Laboratory

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Power Systems Engineer to work in our Infrastructure Security department. Our team works in person with potential hybrid opportunities with a 9x80 schedule located out of our Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience (UB4) facility with offices and labs on our Idaho Falls campus with every other Friday off.

You will participate in state-of-the-art grid technology advancements within the sub-discipline of electrical engineering that deals with power systems, specifically electric power transmission and distribution, power conversion, and electromechanical devices. You will report to the manager for our Infrastructure Security department manager.

Responsibilities Include:

• Select, apply, and integrate engineering principles, theories, concepts, and technologies with complex engineered systems.

• Alone or in collaboration with others, design, plan, coordinate, implement, and share projects.

• Prepare and contribute to technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors.

• Contribute to the developmental approach for the development and testing of engineered solutions using existing latest or newly created technologies.

• Participate in reviews of requirements, designs, codes, and documentation for internal and external customers.

• Collaborate and partner with other government agencies, academia, and private sector companies to achieve project goals.

• Enhance technical skills and other capabilities to support the INL mission. Stay informed about developments in industry and maintain skills and contribute to the development of new principles.

• Create ideas for new proposals and business development opportunities.

• Prepare drawings, calculations, and specifications for power systems.

Minimum Requirements: 

• Level 1: Bachelor’s in electrical engineering or directly related field and 0 years of experience.

• Level 2: Bachelor’s electrical engineering or directly related field and 2 years of experience or Master’s in electrical engineering or directly related field and 0 years of experience.

• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 

Job Information: 

• The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

• You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you willbe required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
