Culmen International is seeking to employ a Jr Scientist in Phage Immunology.
Roles & Responsibilities:- Conduct and execute research on phage therapeutics targeting microbial pathogens of military significance, including a minimum of five studies or as required.
- Formulate and propose phage cocktails for treating ESKAPEE pathogens (Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli), subject to annual minimums of two and requisite approvals from the team lead and department chief.
- Offer specialized knowledge in bacteriophage biology and genetics, alongside the isolation, identification, and manipulation of bacteriophages.
- Execute assays encompassing genetic analysis PCR assays, plasmid profiling, biochemical and immunodiagnostic testing, mass spectrometry; organize and compile study results to prepare comprehensive data summaries.
- Investigate innovative methods of bacteriophage application to reduce infection at an expert level.
- Manage the department's phage inventory as well as the microbial pathogen strain repository and associated sample inventories.
- Prepare grant proposals centered on phage therapeutics for department chief and research steering committee review and endorsement.
- Draft research protocols and grant proposals for scientific scrutiny; execute approved research accordingly.
Monitor, mentor, and assess technician performance. - Maintain precise and exhaustive records of conducted research in alignment with contract stipulations, including any amendments.
- Deliver reports and data summaries upon request; ready research findings for dissemination through scientific publications and presentations.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety standards along with other relevant regulations and guidelines, which may encompass medical monitoring.
- Engage in seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings actively.
- Ph.D. or MS in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related scientific fields.
- Experience required in at least one of the following areas: microbial and phage biology, molecular biology.
