Culmen International is hiring a Junior Scientist II – Biochemist.
Roles & Responsibilities:- The principal investigator holds essential scientific and technical expertise for the research and development of innovative medical countermeasures against wound infections.
- Responsibilities include designing and executing research on biochemical drug design targeting microbial pathogens of military importance, which encompasses animal testing.
- The investigator develops drug candidates aimed at ESKAPEE pathogens (Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli), manages their advancement to antimicrobial development, and obtains approval from the team lead and department chief.
- They compose grant proposals for consideration and endorsement by the department chief and research steering committee.
- Their antimicrobial development research projects involve protein expression and purification, performing minimum inhibitory concentration experiments, animal modeling, and virtual drug modeling bound to target proteins.
- As a technical authority, the investigator supervises the expression and purification of bacterial and host proteins.
They are in charge of drafting research protocols and grant proposals for scientific evaluation, as well as implementing the sanctioned research. - The role entails monitoring, mentoring, and assessing technician performance.
- It is vital to maintain precise and exhaustive records of all research activities in compliance with contract stipulations, including any alterations.
The investigator is obliged to furnish reports and data summaries when requested and to compile research results for dissemination via presentations and publications in scientific journals. - Compliance with occupational health and safety standards is compulsory, along with adherence to other pertinent regulations and guidelines, which may include medical surveillance.
- Participation in seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings is also part of their duties.
- MD or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or other related scientific fields.
- Experience required in at least one of the following areas: druggable target identification, cloning, enzymology, protein characterization and protein chemistry.
