JOB TITLE: Junior Truss Designer
JOB LOCATION: St. George, UT
FUNCTION: The Junior Truss Designer is an entry level designer committed to learning to design trusses for production in accordance with client specifications.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Visualize, fulfil, and implement the company vision and core values.
- Design roof and floor trusses using MiTek software and ensuring designs are accurate, optimized, and conform to standards.
- Assist in the communication with customers (as needed) to provide accurate truss designs.
- Assist in generating and providing accurate pricing and material quantities for estimating purposes.
- Assist in designing trusses for production and help generate truss placement layouts for final construction.
- Developing skills in reading and interpreting architectural and structural blueprints.
- Assist the design manager and senior designers in their responsibilities. Deliver work requested under very tight deadlines.
- Willingly learn from senior designers on best job practices/design work.
- Provide job-site support when requested, i.e., assisting sales department.
- Attend and participate in all Company sponsored training programs as required.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and Company policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties, responsibilities or tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Basic Knowledge of floor and roof truss design process.
- Committed to attention to detail in every project.
- Ability to learn how to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
- Knowledge of current local codes associated with truss design, wood framing, hold downs and structural components typical in wood framed buildings.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in multiple jobs simultaneously and maintain organized workflow.
- Demonstrate initiative and reliability.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0 - 3 years experience in truss and construction industry. Some experience preferred.
- Experience using MiTek, Alpine, InteliBuild, or ITW software preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sedentary work: extended periods of sitting.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and other office equipment.
- Visit jobsites occasionally.
