No specific degree is required to enter the technical writing field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), www.bls.gov, there is a growing need for people with strong writing skills to have expertise in economics, law or medicine, which means that having degrees in these fields can offer an advantage. Regardless of the degree program, classes should be completed that focus on developing strong writing skills and technological expertise. Many community colleges offer continuing education courses to strengthen technical writing and editing skills.
