Kennel Assistant - Part Time Hours
Veterinary Kennel Assistants are valuable members of our medical teams and play a crucial role in patient care. Helping Hands you will be responsible for providing direct support to the kennel and the care of its patients. Come thrive in an environment that encourages learning and continued grow within the profession. Helping Hands is hiring part time hours Monday - Thursday with no weekend scheduling.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Animal Handling and Restraint:
- Safely and gently handle animals during various procedures or examinations.
- Ensure the safety of both the animal and the handler.
Walking Animals That May Need Support/Assistance:
- Assist animals that may have mobility issues or require extra support during walks or exercise.
Knowledge of Basic Husbandry/Feeding/and Nutrition:
- Understand and implement proper animal husbandry practices.
- Knowledge of appropriate feeding schedules and nutrition requirements for different species.
Administering Medication to Patients:
- Administer prescribed medications to animals.
- Follow proper protocols for dosage and administration routes.
Maintain Cleanliness of Kennel Areas:
- Ensure kennel areas are clean and sanitary.
- Regularly clean cages, enclosures, and surrounding areas.
Restock and Organize Kennel Supplies:
- Monitor and replenish supplies such as bedding, food, and medical supplies.
- Keep an organized inventory of necessary items.
Bathe/Groom Animals:
- Provide basic grooming and bathing services for animals.
- Recognize signs of skin issues or other health concerns during grooming.
Constantly Advance Your Knowledgebase and Skill Set:
- Stay informed about new developments in animal care and veterinary medicine.
- Attend training sessions or pursue continuing education opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 2 years of professional experience in a veterinary clinical setting (CSR, kennel attendant, vet assistant, other), preferred
- Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve and handle multiple tasks
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be a team player, have patience and maintain a positive attitude.
- Must be able to anticipate and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine. Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day.
