About the Job
Utah Community Action of Salt Lake City, UT is seeking to hire a part time Kitchen Steward. Come work for the agency that has been awarded Best of State 2024 for Best Public Preschool and 2022 Best Charitable Service Organization.
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for operating, sanitizing, and maintain central kitchen equipment. Also responsible for washing dishes, flatware, cutlery, kitchen vessels, sweeping, and mopping floors. Maintains kitchen, warehouse, and dishwashing area in an inspection-ready condition following local health department and head start guidelines. Ensures disposal of all waste and recycling and maintains all chemical levels. Reports any maintenance or hazard issues to the Kitchen Manager. Assists in food prep as directed by the Kitchen Manager. Will provide back up to Food Prep & Delivery Drivers.
This Kitchen Steward position earns $17.28/hr. QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED.
- Current food handler's permit, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire, required.
- Current Driver's License
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-3 years of experience working in a kitchen
OTHER JOB DUTIES
- Ability to follow company guidelines for food prep & sanitation
- Ability to maintain a clean work area and abide by local health department requirements
- Ability to follow instructions, work at a fast pace, and under pressure
- Ensure all food and other items are properly stored
- Ability to load and unload vehicles and inventory
- Possess a positive attitude
- Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
As a member of the central kitchen, the Kitchen Steward will participate in activities that will require standing, moving items and supplies, cleaning, loading, and unloading trucks. Also; the ability to lift 50 lbs. multiple times per day and the ability to recall and retain information.

This person will have a schedule of approx. 6:00am-3:00pm pm Monday-Thursday, Friday 7:00am-11:00am. Office located in South Salt Lake.
