Position OverviewÂ
This role has a high level of ownership for live coverage of breaking news on air and in our digital spaces, as well as other reporting tasks. Our ideal candidate will be a highly skilled communicator who is passionate about news and practices the highest journalistic standards. Management will assign responsibilities on a regular and/or rotating basis depending upon need and proven capabilities and the need to provide expertise for the future.Â

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion. Â
This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake Citysite. However, reporting duties will involve working outside of the building frequently. Â

What You Will Do:Â Â
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:Â Â
Coverage of breaking news in the midday hoursÂ
Enterprising news storiesÂ
Cultivating and maintaining news sourcesÂ
Presenting news in a concise, conversational and accurate manner on-air and onlineÂ
Reporting live from the field whenever possible
Creating objective news content that will be consumed by a broad and diverse audience over multiple platforms, including KSLnewsradio.com Â
Writing quickly, clearly and accuratelyÂ
Effectively and appropriately using social media to present stories via all available media channelsÂ
Working flexible hours, including weekends and holidays under deadlinesÂ
Being available for breaking news coverage at all times of the day, including weekends and holidaysÂ
Coordinating with other producers, anchors and managers on breaking news updates and coverageÂ
Other duties as assignedÂ

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:Â Â
College degree in communications, journalism, marketing or another relevant field. If no degree, 2 years relevant experienceÂ
Direct experience writing for broadcastÂ
Direct experience crafting and effectively delivering stories on-airÂ
Direct experience editing audio Â
Knowledgeable and articulate in dealing with current affairs and the news of the dayÂ
Creative in use of sound, production elements, audience engagement and news ideasÂ
Self-motivated, creative individual who can also organize and consistently display good judgementÂ
Ability to understand and execute format philosophy and work with a team of other professionals in creating a distinctive soundÂ
High attention to detailÂ
Work effectively in a team environmentÂ
Proven ability to handle stressÂ
Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanorÂ
Ability to consistently work hours required, and works more when required to meet deadlinesÂ
Maintain positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clientsÂ

Physical Demands Â
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.Â
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. Â
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Â
Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.Â

Compensation Â
$16.00 to $25.48 per hour. This range is inclusive of multiple job levels. Hourly rate tobedetermined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.Â
