Job Summary
The Technical Director for the LA Galaxy will be tasked with supporting the vision, values, and strategic objectives of the club. Executing the long-term vision, this role will work on the development of players while fostering evolving leadership to consistently succeed on the field to achieve success at all levels of the organization.
Essential Functions
Player Development
- Work closely with the General Manager in arranging, conducting, supervising, managing, and assessing all developing players in the Galaxy youth and reserve teams.
- Partner with the Director of Scouting in global scouting, identification, and recruitment of U22 initiative players; Oversee (KPI) for U23 players, including movement/transitions across all teams
- Oversee and enforce weekly, biweekly, and monthly player movement between all levels of club for games and training sessions
Admin Duties
- Evolve scouting processes with the Director of Analytics to perfect our player profiles, ensuring the greatest efficiencies and success rates
- Consult and advise with representatives from other clubs to share and develop best practices.
- Manage working relationships and communications between the Sports Performance and Medical Department
Recruiting
- Work with the General Manager and Director of Scouting to aid in the planning, scouting, recruitment, and acquisition of players for the first team and reserve team. This includes all aspects of the player identification and acquisition process.
- Consult with Youth Development Leadership and Academy Scout on best practices for the identification, recruitment, and acquisition of players for development teams.
- Assist Senior Director of Soccer Operations in creation of Galaxy II player roster selections
- Actively participate in player entry and exit strategies, including financial strategy
Budgets/ Finances
- Consult, and advise the Club regarding the management of players, multi-year salary cap planning, including rosters, evaluations, player identification models, player acquisitions, and player trades
- Assist the General Manager in conducting negotiations for First Team and Galaxy II player contracts, and recruitment of Academy level players
- Assist the General Manager with oversight, and execution of, U23 player sales and loans
- Oversee, and direct the Club’s Scouting Budget
Travel
- Travel as requested to track domestic and international market (KPI) and assess market value for U23 players
Required Qualifications
- Proven knowledge and experience of MLS and of international soccer – specifically in the area of scouting
- Experience managing budgets
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet use, and ability to learn required business systems
- Ability to read, listen, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Proven leadership experience
- Thoroughness and attention to detail
- Compliance with organizational directives
- Creativity and ability to see ideas through to successful execution
- Highly motivated, naturally aggressive, with a positive attitude
- Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task effectively and with a sense of urgency, sometimes under a high level of stress
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must be willing to work extensive hours, including nights and weekends. Must also be willing and available to travel
Pay Scale: $190,000- $230,000
AEG reserves the right to change or modify the employee’s job description whether orally or in writing, at any time during the employment relationship. AEG may require an employee to perform duties outside their normal description.
