About the Job
Accessioners play a crucial role in the laboratory setting, handling a variety of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of specimen processing. They receive, verify, and enter patient information into LIMs systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HIPAA and CLIA regulations. In addition, they assist in maintaining overall documentation involving transport and receipt of samples and associated clerical duties. Accessioners also organize patient samples for laboratory workflow.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Detail data entry base on patients requisitions and assist with various administrative and clerical functions.
- Receive, sort, enter samples of human specimen into LIMS.
- Manage molecular processing, customer care accounts, frozen splits, send outs.
- Accession routine, stat, send out orders of patient samples.
- Prepare specimens for FedEx shipments or Courier Pick up.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including OSHA guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness of lab station and perform QC checks on tests request.
- File all paperwork in order and distribute to the appropriate QC files
- Assist with quality assurance audits
- Adhere to OSHA regulations, safety policies, and blood borne pathogen guidelines.
- Verify patient information and enter ordered tests into the medical database in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow the correct instruction to order in-house and send out tests, labeling and centrifugation specimens.
- Maintain patient confidentiality as required by HIPAA, as well as a proper chain of custody for irreplaceable specimens.
- Enter requisition information into LIMS for processing, print labels according to tests order on requisition, print appropriate labels.
- Verify Medicaid and insurance coverage for incoming patients.
- Utilize the LIMS and reference SOP materials to ensure that the correct specimen types are received for each test request.
- Perform a variety of clinical support duties such stocking supplies and assisting with inventory
- Stay up to date on all forms of communication, including but not limited to: email, and Teams.
- Stay up to date all TAGU learning
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to multitask.
- Basic computer skills
- Capable of working well on a team and independently
- Detail-oriented with proven ability to work effectively under conditions requiring accuracy
- At least one year of experience in an office laboratory or medical office
EDUCATION:
- Minimum High School degree or equivalent required.

MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Works in clean, smoke-free and well-lighted spaces.
- Exposure to frequent deadlines/ must have ability to handle stress effectively, subject to frequent interruptions
- Must have good visual and hearing acuity.
- Must be able to utilize keyboard and view computer screens up to 90% of shift.
- Must be able to follow directions and plan fairly complex processes & workflow
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend, climb, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions of hands and/or wrists.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, repeatedly bend and twist, and standing for up to 10-12 hours daily
