Job Title: Student Lab Assistant
Job Location: Athens, Ohio
Shift: 8am - 5pm M-F
Payrate: $15 - $17.50 per hour
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Student Assistant is responsible for the production of intermediate reagents and buffers, finished good catalog items, and custom orders in accordance with Quidel’s Quality System Regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Preparation of all materials required for the production and testing of the proteins.
Assists with operation and maintainenance moderately complex laboratory equipment such as FPLC, spectrophotometer, and lyophilizers, for example.
Operates and maintains wet laboratory equipment such as pH meter, conductivity meter, osmometer, and scales, for example.
May assist in the production and testing of proteins under the supervision of Protein Biochemist I or higher
Performs routine lab maintenance while ensuring all preventative maintenance and equipment calibrations are maintained to schedule.
Helps maintain raw and intermediate material inventories.
Ability to cross-train to other departments when needed.
INTERACTIONS:
The position requires interactions with Packaging, R&D, Supply Chain, Purchasing, QC, QA, and Customer Service groups. May also interact with outside contractors when needed.

Laboratory and manufacturing environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The ability to use a computer keyboard, sit or stand for long hours, and handle routine laboratory equipment is essential to this position. The applicant must be able to visually monitor testing procedures and results for Quality Standards. Equipment maintenance requires the ability to maneuver throughout both laboratory and office environments and to lift up to 45 pounds.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE (indicate if required or preferred):
Education and Experience:
High School diploma with 4 years relevant laboratory experience outside course work.
Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient at sustained communication with supervisor and cross functional teams on daily production progress and key project initiatives. Understanding of project organization and time management will be key for production success.
Compliance procedures defined by a set of standards regulated by requirements from FDA, any export countries and ISO organizations
Must be able to work under moderate to minimal supervision.
