Position Summary
As a Lab Planner, your skills would include pre-design, programming & laboratory planning, and knowledge of specialty architectural environments. Also important is the design and documentation of laboratory projects, subject matter expert (SME) in public health and clinical labs, food and beverage or other technical laboratory or pilot plant types.
Responsibilities:- Meet with clients/users to develop or validate program requirements for lab and high-tech facilities.
- Provide technical planning expertise and leadership for laboratory facilities in the areas of programming, design, fit‐out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning casework specification and construction administration.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients’ program requirements and standards and policies for completion.
- Lead the design development, modification and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions.
- Develop space programs and physical plans at a variety of scales.
- Collaborate with the project team in planning the facility by developing planning modules, lab organization and service distribution concepts.
- Lead documentation of laboratory systems such as casework, lab equipment, and development of laboratory spaces to create next generation settings for discovery.
- Develop architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts or project documentation and construction.
- Translates planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers, and project team members.
- Manage projects including negotiating project scope and fees, job production and quality, and fee management.
- Participate in marketing efforts through proposal development, interview participation and presentations.
- Develop trusting relationships with clients
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture required, master’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory planning, design, construction documents, construction administration, and project construction cost control for lab facilities as well as technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
- 5 plus year’s progressive experience focused on programming and planning of all phases of a variety of laboratory types such as: pharmaceutical, public health, clinical, process, and manufacturing facilities.
- LEED AP and Architectural Registration preferred.
- Capable of using and proficient experience with AutoCAD, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Revit
- Sketch-up, 3D software, Rendering software, Photoshop.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to convey laboratory planning needs to designers and other team members.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
