The City of Oxnard's Wastewater Division is seeking a Lab Scientist with strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. We seek candidates with a positive and energetic leadership style who have a willingness to take a "hands on" approach to developing a strong team within the division. Strong analytical and project management skills as well as the ability to develop and recommend comprehensive solutions are required.
As a Lab Scientist for the City, you will play a pivotal role in performing quantitative and qualitative scientific chemical or laboratory analyses that comply with EPA and State of California water and wastewater regulations.WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Review and analyze samples using sophisticated technical equipment; interpret data and prepare complex reports
- Ensure that equipment is properly calibrated and maintained; perform routine testing and maintenance of equipment.
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in special projects.
- Peform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Laboratory Specialist in that it provides professional chemical and biological laboratory testing and reporting.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
May lead paraprofessional and support staff by reviewing work and performing quality control. Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the supervisor informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or inconsideration of risk management.
WORK SCHEDULE:The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and alternating Fridays 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. In addition, this position may require additional hours to be available in response to peak workloads, activation of the Emergency Operations Center, and changes in department needs.
