Summary:
The Lab Supervisor provides daily guidance to lab personnel in direct support of their duties and responsibilities.This position analyzes cement and other materials utilized or created during the cement
manufacturing processes. The position exercises direct supervision over all laboratory personnel at the plant.The Lab Supervisor must remain available to assist with lab and processing problems.
What you'll be contributing:
- Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
- Performs regular and special chemical analysis on samples of the following: cement, clinker, coal, kiln dust, raw mill, kiln feed, and other purchased or mined raw materials for process and quality control.
- Reviews results of chemical and physical tests performed and takes necessary actions to adjust the quality to meet established standards and plant quality and production objectives.
- Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities to plant laboratory employees
- Supervises and evaluates the job performance of laboratory personnel, including disciplinary action.
- Assists in purchasing various lab equipment and supplies for chemical testing.
- Provides constant feedback on the production process to ensure desired product characteristics.
- Conducts regular inspections of plant operations to determine probable causes of product quality fluctuations or to detect unusual conditions.
- Prepare chemical solutions for use in chemical analysis.
- Retains and updates laboratory research data and documentation on the lab computer. Prepares reports, graphs, and charts as requested by plant management.
- Prepares and sends samples for compliance with wastewater treatment regulatory guidelines.
- Ensures that QC and QA measures are being implemented on all analytical testing along with maintaining written or electronic archival of the same.
- Acts as local PCIS and PTIS champion to review data trending and recommend corrective actions.
- Orders supplies needed for laboratory activities.
- Develops and maintains X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and other instrument calibrations with guidance from the Quality Control Manager.
- Attends trainings as required.
- Be backup to radiation safety officer, and ensures safety standards compliance.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing lab environment
- Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
- Proficient in English written, verbal communication and listening skills.
- Ability to demonstrates a high commitment to quality
- Knowledge of theories, procedures and guidelines pertaining to the fields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
- Proficient with instrumentation analysis and wet chemical analysis.
- Ability to use a computer to store data and generate reports.
- Ability to be exposed to confidential information which may have a competitive or patentable value to the company or its customers.
- Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly
- Ability to be exposed to toxic and corrosive chemicals on a daily basis.
