Responsibilities
The Clinical Laboratory Technician is a versatile worker providing a variety of laboratory support functions. The incumbent will work with the Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the processing of samples and placement on analyzers for laboratory testing. The incumbent will be trained in the management of the laboratory analyzers and work with the CLS on the maintenance of the analyzers. All laboratory tasks, except those restricted by California law, will be part of the daily work schedule.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Participate in maintenance of all laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Conduct inventory control and ordering for all lab supplies.
- Proficient knowledge of laboratory techniques
- Medical or other department specific terminology including spelling and definitions
- Working knowledge of related equipment and treatment methods
- Computer and data entry skills
- Ability to instruct and train in lab methods and procedures
Education:
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
Experience:
- 3 years of Phlebotomy experience required
- 2 years in an acute care hospital setting required
- 2 years of working with a Laboratory Analyzer (Consideration given for variation in the years of experience as long as total years is five years or greater) required
- Maintenance experience with laboratory equipment such as Laboratory Analyzers is strongly preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
- CPT/CPT II - State of California Certified Phlebotomy Technician required
