The Wage and Hour Division has an opening for a full-time Labor Compliance Officer.   This position is instrumental in administering Idaho's labor laws and assisting claimants in filing wage claims.
The ideal candidate must have strong financial skills, an analytical approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as a team.

Duties:

• Administer Idaho's labor laws using the Department's current interpretations.
• Assist claimants in filing wage claims.
• Conduct claim investigations of all potential issues on each wage claim filed.
• Issue determinations based on all issues documented and facts of the claim.
• Conduct pre-claim investigations and investigations of minimum wage and wage payment law complaints.
• Notify employers of complaints and noncompliance and discuss conformance problems and possible solutions.
• Investigate complaints of Idaho's labor law violations and explains the Department's current interpretation.
• Consult with employees, employers, attorneys and any other constituents on federal laws.
• Interview claimants and employers to gather evidence for use in the prosecution of violators.
• Advise employers and claimants of alternative solutions and settlements.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports.
• Make presentations to groups or individuals on Idaho's labor laws.
• Provide assistance to employers in developing policies and manuals that conform to Idaho state labor laws.
• Provide information to farm labor employees, contactors and employers of Idaho's farm laborers about contractor licensing laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Some Knowledge of:

• Payroll records systems.   Typically gained by one course related to payroll record systems such as accounting/bookkeeping OR Approximately three (3) months of experience maintaining or auditing payroll records.

Experience:

• Questioning individuals to obtain detailed information.  Typically gained by approximately three (3) months of experience questioning individuals to obtain detailed information, including follow-up questioning and ensuring accuracy and completeness. Experience must involve providing feedback rather than just providing general information. General receptionist experience is non-qualifying.
• Understanding, applying and explaining laws and regulations.   Typically gained by approximately three (3) months of experience with responsibility for reviewing documents or actions for compliance with laws and regulations and/or policies and procedures. Please also describe to whom you were explaining laws and regulations.
• Preparing narrative reports.   This experience is typically gained by at least three (3) months of experience preparing narrative reports to be reviewed by others. Keeping or preparing records, logbooks or journals would not qualify, unless narrative in nature and for other than personal use.
