The Location: Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Laboratory Animal Veterinary Nurse II to join our dedicated Animal Quality team at our Seattle, WA site. This is a hybrid position and allows for flexibility to work equal parts onsite and remote.
The Pay Range: $68,000 - $78,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions and could exceed the advertised salary range, however, please note that the upper end of the range is not guaranteed to be offered.

As a Laboratory Animal Veterinary Nurse II at our Seattle site, you will play a vital role in supporting the Animal Quality Department by ensuring the health and welfare of our laboratory animals. In addition to engaging in hands-on clinical and technical tasks—such as performing necropsies, monitoring colony health, and training operations staff on veterinary protocols—you will also have responsibilities supporting flow cytometry tasks. Your expertise will help drive compliance with animal welfare standards and enhance the quality of care provided. The Role:

Core Responsibilities:
- Visits Taconic facilities to monitor animal health and welfare concerns.
- Performs necropsies as needed and report findings to veterinary staff.
- Enters, pulls reports, and screens clinical data for colony health changes.
- Extracts clinical data for site veterinarian to respond to internal or external customers.
- Evaluates anomalous animals and communicate findings to veterinary staff.
- Provides training to animal technicians on veterinary procedures.
- Schedules special health monitoring when needed (e.g. culture/histopathology from necropsy).
- Conducts special projects as assigned and document findings for veterinary review.
- Support and perform flow cytometry tasks as needed.
- Requires travel, via personal vehicle or public transportation, to a nearby laboratory to perform testing as needed.
- Support the site and collaborate/work with colleagues while meeting priorities.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, or technical/managerial experience at an equivalent level required.
- Requires veterinary technician/nurse degree with laboratory animal coursework.
- WA State licensed veterinary technician required.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience and/or training.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to write reports and procedural instructions, present information clearly, and engage effectively with diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to interact regularly with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate procedures and foster cooperation.
- Solid reasoning ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and instructions, along with problem-solving skills to navigate situations with limited standardization.
- Occasional travel is required, generally 2 to 5 trips per year. Overnight travel may be necessary.
- This position requires travel, via personal vehicle or public transportation, to a nearby laboratory to perform testing for flow cytometry as needed.

- Requires some physical exertion, including long periods of standing, recurring bending and lifting, and the ability to lift items up to 25 pounds.
- You may encounter chemicals and work with heavy machinery, necessitating the use of protective measures. There is some exposure to occupational hazards that require routine precautions, as well as potential exposure to extremes in temperature, outdoor weather, strong odors, and varying noise levels.
