About the Job
The Laboratory Assistant performs all processing procedures, computer functions and other job duties specific to the department for which he/she has been hired. Additional training within a department may allow the Laboratory Assistant to perform certain specified procedures under the supervision of a Licensed Technologist
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Independent, mature, self-motivated, reliable, and responsible
- Able to serve the needs of patients ages neonatal to geriatric.
- Able to deal with all types of customers in a pleasant, professional manner
- Able to handle numerous tasks simultaneously
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Able to perform assigned duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Telephone, computer, xerox machine, fax machine, equipment related to specific procedure responsibility.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
- Accurate and efficient processing in accordance with procedures for department is followed
- Understands the technical aspects of any procedures or tasks performed
- Liaison between clinicians, patients and pathologists.
- Processes invoices for Laboratory and Respiratory Depts.
- Attends meetings and transcribes minutes for AP/QA.
- Provides transcription services for Pathology Dept.
- Assists supervisors, tech areas with clerical functions.
- Assists with computer related tasks.
- Orders supplies for laboratory.
- Reports and problems encountered to the supervisor of the section
- Competency is demonstrated and maintained in all testing methods that the position is defined to perform
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures is maintained and updated as needed.
- Works independently, requesting as-distance when needed
- Anticipates problems and works to solve them.
- Performs duties willingly.
- Demonstrates appearance and hygiene appropriate to the delivery of quality services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

Salary Range: $16.63-21.44 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
