Summary:
The Assistant Supervisor is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting of technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice. The Assistant Supervisor may perform administrative and supervisory responsibilities of the laboratory section assuming additional technical or non-technical responsibilities as needed.
** Requires Blood Bank experience.
- Requires being able to work the bench.
- 6:30AM-3PM and every other weekend.
Responsibilities:
Effectively manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments and equipment. Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols.May provide supervision of a laboratory section.May perform method validations and ongoing method assessments.Effectively communicates with nursing and medical staff.Ensures staff compliance with regulatory, departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols.Assists or provides monitoring and coaching of team members and provides input in the evaluation of team members performance.Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.May assess competency of team members.Assists the Supervisor and/or Manager with writing and reviewing of policies and procedures.Reviews and troubleshoots quality control and equipment issues.Observes and instructs student technologists and new or current employees.

Complexity of Work: Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Other Information: ** Florida State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in the defined area of responsibility.Additional Education Info: Graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist program, or accredited Histotechnology program.
