This role requires a Cytogenetic Technician to apply clinical expertise in evidence-based laboratory practice, providing education and support to both students completing clinical rotations and laboratory teammates.
Duties
The Lab Educator is responsible for creating educational curriculum and collaborating with system lab leaders, program chairs, and laboratory staff. This position requires an individual to work independently, think systematically, excel in communication, and have a passion for creating and delivering innovative educational solutions.
- Demonstrates proficiency and adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work areas, documenting corrective actions for any non-conforming events.
- Participates in a competency assessment program, where qualified.
- Fosters a culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence for students and teammates.
- Collaborates with lab leaders to deliver a new teammate onboarding experience that is inclusive, teamwork-focused, and highlights our Culture Commitments.
- Assigns and coordinates efficient training of students and teammates, delegating authority and responsibility as appropriate to ensure timely completion of training documentation.
- Designs, develops, and facilitates the dissemination of standard best practice training resources in response to healthcare trends, regulatory requirements, and strategic priorities of the organization.
- Utilizes multiple education modalities and leverages technology to provide educational activities both on and off the bench to increase engagement and productivity.
- Assesses learning styles and levels of experience to customize training programs for a unique one-on-one learning experience.
- Performs competency assessments for teammates, ensuring that all teammates meet accreditation complexity requirements prior to reporting patient results and ongoing thereafter.
- Maintains clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns, and problems that may affect patient care or the operation of the Customer.
Skills
This role operates in a fast-paced clinical environment containing biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.
