Molecular Manager Job Description
Position Overview:
Under managerial direction, this position is responsible for complex laboratory procedures and has authority over testing personnel. This classification requires extensive knowledge of science and laboratory procedures, specialized molecular diagnostic laboratory tests, and medical terminology to perform specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests. The Molecular Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for employee training and development, preparation and supervision of validation protocols and procedures and completion of validation reports and monitoring and maintaining inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by the team of Molecular Clinical Technologists.
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
Provide leadership in the clinical laboratory resulting in test results being produced in a timely and accurate way.
To understand and apply general and specific quality control procedures for the clinical laboratory.
Provide resolution of technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor/Manager.
Monitor test performance and manage QA/QC Markers and proficiency testing through the applicable proficiency program.
The experience or the willingness to be trained toward laboratory trouble-shooting leading to the verification and validation of laboratory procedures and development of new policies.
Aides in the development of the laboratory’s quality control policies, documentation of quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations.
Ensure that remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
To understand and perform routine and specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment’s, reagent and material quality control.
Maintains medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.
Facilitates the implementation of new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress in accordance with management direction.
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
Complies with state and professional continuing education requirements.
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science and 3 years of training and experience in high-complexity testing [preferred] or bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or other biological science with at least 4-5 years of training and experience in high complexity testing.
Qualify as testing personnel under CLIA guidelines and have at least 1-2 years of laboratory supervisors experience in high complexity testing.
Florida State Laboratory Technologist/Supervisors License Required.
1-2 years of experience with Real-Time PCR and/or NGS instruments in a high complexity testing laboratory.
