*The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Maryland School of Medicine*is recruiting for a*Laboratory Research Assistant. * The Laboratory Research Assistant is primarily responsible for performing cancer research activities in a laboratory. Responsibilities include performance of other work-related duties in a laboratory setting under instruction. *Primary Duties:* * Perform laboratory cancer research activities and routine laboratory maintenance such as: Western blot assays, cell viability assay, and other assays; prepare solutions and buffers, human and mouse cell cultures; transfection of human/mouse cells; assist a senior researcher in the lab with mouse studies; general housekeeping; and order reagents. * May perform advanced laboratory research activities such as: animal surgery, microscopy techniques, imaging techniques, recombinant DNA techniques, protein purification, and hybridizations, etc. May participate in the design of research studies. Compile and may analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications. Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication. Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies. * Perform other related duties as assigned. *Minimum Qualifications: * *Education:*Bachelor's degree in biology, life science, biomedicine, biology (molecular, cancer or cell) or field of study related to the research of the laboratory. Master's degree preferred. *Preferred Experience*: Research experience with cell viability assay, cell migration assay, cancer biology, and mouse study preferred. *Other:*May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. *KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES* Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
