Responsibilities
This entry-level technician position is part of a dynamic testing team that supports manufacturing as well as development workstreams in Engineered Materials.
- Hands-on testing of polymer properties including melt viscosity, ash, melt flow rate/melt volume rate, flammability, adhesion, volatiles, melting point, color, tensile, flex, impact, hardness, FTIR, and others
- Injection molding of test specimens
- Entry of test results into laboratory information management system (LIMS)
- Maintaining a safe work environment by complying with all safety requirements, performing safety audits/inspections, participating in safety meetings and initiatives, promoting good housekeeping practices, and proactively recommending and implementing improvements
- Maintaining quality standards including following lab procedures, ensuring accurate records, performing calculations accurately, and participating in internal and external quality audits
- Communicating with stakeholders/counterparts in other functions, including Manufacturing and Technology & Innovation, regarding the status and results of lab testing.
- Schedule:
- The lab operates 24x7
- Day and night shift positions are available. Specific shift times and schedules vary and will be discussed during the interview process.
- Overtime opportunities available based on lab need.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to lift 55 pounds
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures and instructions
- Ability to multitask (manage multiple simultaneous samples in organized high quality environment) is required.
- The candidate must achieve an acceptable score on a basic math test that includes calculating percentages, averages, unit conversions, and performing rounding.
- The candidate must demonstrate minimum color aptitude by scoring a 50 or lower using the Farnsworth-Munsell Hue Test. Laboratory Management will also assess results screening for color deficiencies as outlined in the FM-100 test method.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED
· Lab experience preferred but not required.
