Lab Technician - Waterborne Paint Technology
Overview
Axalta Coating Systems is seeking a Lab Technician to join our Industrial Building Products Technology Group in Fridley, Minnesota. This individual will conduct routine testing along with complex research laboratory activities to support our fundamental understanding of paint technology in support of Axalta's growth initiatives. The role of Technician will report into the Building Products Exterior Team Manager
Responsibilities:
- Conduct experiments independently and collect, summarize, and present the resulting data
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur
- Identify and suggest improvements in methods
- Document findings and communicate results using programs such as Word and Excel
- Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location
- Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location
- Shipping and receiving to support R&D laboratory
- Maintain laboratory assets following Standard Operating Procedures
- Assist with development and documenting Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory assets and processes
- Preparation and evaluation of coating formulations including sealer, primer, topcoat and clear coat using mixing equipment and various coating application equipment, including manual and automated processes.
- Safely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals on a routine basis.
- Handling multiple tasks under strict time constraints
Education:
- 2-year degree from college or technical school; or equivalent experience in an industrial laboratory environment.
Qualifications:
- Prefer 2-year experience in an industrial setting. Paint and Coatings experience a bonus!
- Experience in research and development lab is preferred
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting established deadlines
- Comfortable working with hazardous materials
- Strong interest in hands-on work to ensure a good understanding of the products
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Effective problem solver.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
