Description/Comment: | GENERAL SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for supporting an R&D team to develop new separation science products methods, and techniques, execute experimental part of a research project, and summarize and report data. It will also be responsible for providing analytical support, keeping instruments calibrated and in excellent working condition and performing simple maintenance tasks. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Executes sets of experiments according to existing protocols designed by supervisor and/or project lead • Provides synthetic support to develop safe, cost-effective and efficient technologies involving surface modification of silica and polymer particles • Supports scaling up efforts from small laboratory scale to pilot- and full manufacturing-scale • Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains laboratory equipment • Prepares solutions and mixtures of solvents with exact concentration • Performs physical and chemical testing of chromatographic sorbents, HPLC columns and sample preparation products with limited supervision • Documents, summarizes and reports experimental data. Maintains detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graphs all relevant trend data • Analyzes data and discusses next steps with supervisor • Performs routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, and requests and coordinates professional service if necessary • Maintains all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keep all work areas neat and clean, and follow all safety procedures without exception • Trains incoming technicians on routine testing and safety measures related to their assignments • Manages materials and workspace • Monitors inventory for materials and reagents • Maintains workspace clean and organized • Disposes of waste following procedures in place • Supports other research activities as requested by supervisor • Performs additional more complex work as requested KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related STEM field • Ability to carry our chemical experiments in a laboratory • Experience with operating laboratory tools and instruments such as analytical balance, pipettes, elemental analyzer, HPLC or GC. • Ensures all work is accurate and free of errors / defects • Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and positive attitude • Ability to satisfactorily perform routine tasks accurately and promptly, working independently • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and data base applications • Must have knowledge of safety measures when working with hazardous chemicals • Ability to manage multiple projects and establish priorities in a fast-paced environment • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work individually and as a member of a team with minimum supervision |

Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor. If there is an accident or near miss, they must report it to their supervisor immediately.
