Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Executive Director (ED), this position is responsible for the Language Revitalization Program (LRPD) for the Doyon region. The LRPD will oversee all project administrative activities within the Doyon Foundation language program and supervise language staff.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
- Manage the Language Revitalization Program to include staffing, budgeting, planning, goals/objectives, grant administration and ensure compliance to contractual obligations and requirements.
- Researches and obtains grants and contracts to meet overall goals of the department.
- Ensures language grant reporting is completed by the deadlines.
- Develop, implement and manage the overall budgets.
- Establish, implement, and communicate goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in accordance with contractual requirements and needs of Doyon Foundation.
- Develop comprehensive needs survey including analysis and reporting survey-based recommendations for language revitalization.
- Provides expertise and/or identify resources in Doyon region language development.
- Provide staff support for the Language Revitalization Committee.
- Attend conferences and meetings related to Language Revitalization.
- Work cooperatively with other language program directors, managers, and communities to incorporate the Doyon region languages and culture. Deepen partnerships with outside resources—including third-party vendors and researchers.
- Develop and implement a plan to archive material important to continue and strengthen the Doyon Region’s language & Culture.
- Other related duties may also be assigned by ED.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Effectively manage time when accomplishing tasks, projects, and goals.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, including listening, writing, reading and speaking effectively, as well as positively relating and interacting with co-workers, manager, and others.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong leadership skills and can work well with diverse groups of people.
- Work with all organizations and communities in the region to help perpetuate Doyon region languages and culture.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alaskan Native Culture and Language for the Doyon region.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, grants, & contracts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community based projects.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Alaska Native Languages or Linguistics or a combination of equivalent experience and education
- Experience in grant writing and management of contracts and grants, required.
- Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures required.
- Proficient with computers, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet; MS Project a plus
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
Supervision: This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Working Environment: The majority of the work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people in differing function, personalities, and abilities.
