Education & experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Controls or Electrical Engineering.
- 5 years of experience in the industrial automation industry utilizing Siemens PLC Controls
- Strongly Preferred: SINUMERIK 840D
- Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine/motion control
- Experience designing for large automated systems from initial concept through installation and customer buy off.
- Familiarity with IEC61131 (PLC programming languages).
- Ability to analyze and diagnose problems in automated equipment.
- Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal PLC programming experience, preferred.
- Experience designing electrical cabinets and layouts, including circuit design.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of electrical safety guidelines.
- Familiar with ISO 13849-1 and IEC 62061 safety of machinery standards.
- Knowledge of EPLAN (or AutoCAD Electrical) for creating electrical drawings.
- Experience in assembly electrical cabinets, preferred.
- Strong communication skills & ability to interact with teams, clients, and vendors.
- Act as an expert resource to the electrical and controls engineering team.
- Takes ownership of 1-5 projects contributing to budgeting, timing, design, and team oversight.
- Mentor and train junior team members to advance their knowledge.
- Provide electrical and controls engineering input for design of new equipment & system introductions.
- Influence strategic planning to contribute to the success of technical projects.
- Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise for sales projects & supports the sales team.
- Develops training procedures and documentation for projects.
- Travel to customer sites for machine commissioning; travel to parent company in Germany
- Train customer’s staff & new technicians in machine operation as needed.
