The ABCD AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) matches low-income seniors, ages 55+, with children in early education centers, Head Start Programs, and schools to create meaningful relationships with students with special and exceptional needs. Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing groups of Foster Grand Parents in Boston, Quincy, Eastern Middlesex area, program participants in Boston, Quincy and/or Eastern Middlesex area, interns, and youth workers, & program volunteers (IYP).
- Recruit, screen, onboard, place, and supervise program participants to ensure successful and productive service assignments.
- Monitor, evaluate and conduct site visits of volunteer stations to ensure services are delivered effectively.
- Secure, maintain and update required forms in volunteer files.
- Ensure application and criminal history checks on foster grandparents are performed and approved as required prior to service.
- Function as a liaison between volunteer stations and program participants providing mediation as necessary.
- Translate FGP brochures, flyers, training materials, and other relevant information for the Foster Grandparents.
- Conduct monthly meetings for program participants and provide essential resources.
- Represent and market the program in the community through presentations and participation in meetings & conferences to increase viability & awareness of the program.
- Assist the Director – Elder Services with special projects and perform other related duties as needed.
- Assess and identify needs for IYP.
- Actively recruit, onboard, and provide consistent guidance IYP.
- Develop orientation and continued training modules and maintain IYP manuals.
- Complete and maintain necessary documentation for IYP including work plans, learning plans, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain timesheets for IYP and conduct pre/post service surveys.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and three to five years of experience in social services, volunteer management or a related field is required.
- Experience with supervision, resource development, and marketing is required.
- An Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field is preferred.
- Knowledge of child development, educational system, disabilities, and/or aging services is a plus.
- Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of the needs of older adults and community resources.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Must be able to travel around Boston, Quincy, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford Malden, Everett, Melrose, & Stoneham.
