Job Description:
The Lead Diesel Tech at Certified Fleet Services plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation and growth of our service center. Leveraging deep expertise in the diesel industry, this role oversees the day-to-day activities of the service department while actively contributing to the professional development and success of our team of technicians.
Lead Technician Key Responsibilities:
MUST BE OPEN TO WORKING ON TRUCKS AS WELL AS SUPERVISING. MINIMUM 25 HOURS, UP TO 40 HOURS OF BILLED TIME.
- Leadership and Management: Provide strong leadership to the service team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability. Manage and coordinate the activities of technicians to ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to quality standards.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines, systems, and components to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles effectively. Offer guidance and support to technicians in troubleshooting complex issues and implementing best practices.
- Customer Service Excellence: Ensure exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally. Collaborate with the customer service team to uphold high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Workflow Optimization: Continuously assess and improve service department processes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Implement measures to streamline workflow, reduce downtime, and maximize resource utilization.
- Training and Development: Take an active role in the training and development of technicians, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and opportunities for skill enhancement. Identify training needs and facilitate relevant training programs to enhance team capabilities.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and recognize outstanding achievements. Address performance issues promptly and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control processes to ensure adequate stock levels of parts, tools, and equipment required for service operations. Monitor inventory turnover, minimize wastage, and optimize inventory costs.
- Safety and Compliance: Uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance in all service operations. Implement safety protocols, conduct regular safety inspections, and ensure adherence to relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in diesel technicians. Recommend and implement initiatives for continuous improvement to enhance service quality and customer experience.
Lead Technician Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a leadership role within the diesel industry, with a strong track record of success in managing service operations and driving business growth.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, systems, and components, coupled with excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Exceptional leadership abilities, with a demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in computerized diagnostic tools and software systems used in diesel technician operations.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service excellence.
- Minimum 10 years of diesel repair experience required
- Current State Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record required
- Relevant Master Certifications and licenses in diesel mechanics or related fields.
Lead Technician Physical Requirements:
- Ability to spend prolonged periods of time standing or walking
- Ability to work in enclosed environments exposed to excessive noise, automotive shop environment, and cold or heat
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs repetitively and up to 100 lbs occasionally
