The Lead Echocardiographer is responsible for planning and directing the daily schedule and operations of the Non Invasive Cardiology Lab. This position monitors and maintains diagnostic and technical equipment and ensures quality control standards are maintained.
Responsibilities:A day in the life of a Lead Echocardiographer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Revises the schedule as required based upon the patients needs and resource availability.
2. Identifies, evaluates and implements strategies to correct departmental Quality Assurance problems.
3. Responsible for IAC accreditation processes and functions as the Technical Director of the local echo program.
4. Responsible for maintaining accreditation requirements and QA reviews.
5. Confers with Echo Lab Leader as necessary to improve the functions.
6. Responsible for orienting new echocardiographers, physicians and fellows to both the department and the equipment.
7. Partners with the leader in the evaluation, updating and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
8. Assists the Cardiovascular Non Invasive leader in personnel interviewing, hiring and promotion of technical staff members.
9. Counsels technical staff as needed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
10. Assists in objective and timely evaluations of staff members¿ performance and makes appropriate recommendations.
11. Participates in the development of staff training programs.
12. Maintains equipment to meet standards established.
13. Participates in evaluation of new equipment, technology and supplies for the Cardiovascular Laboratory.
14. Oversees maintenance, operation calibration and routine periodic evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment and ensures quality control standards are maintained.
15. Delegates responsibilities to technical staff in order to develop their leadership potential.
16. Lifts a minimum of 40 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 100 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
17. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
18. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Graduate of a certified cardiovascular technology school and/or graduate of an accredited ultrasonography program with a specialty in cardiac sonography.
2. A minimum of 3 years of incremental responsibilities as an echocardiographer.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead quality initiatives in the department.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platform.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Proficient in pediatric echocardiography
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification or Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certification.
2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
