About the Job
The Lead Asset Management Engineer is both an individual technical contributor and an assistant to the Manager in directing and monitoring the asset management strategies associated with the operation and maintenance of OPPD¿s substation, transmission, and distribution assets and related systems while optimizing reliability and cost. Assist Manager in distributing work assignments, tracking and reporting progress, and coordinating work with other disciplines for department led projects. This includes best practice recommendations, business justifications, business need to technical requirements translation, asset performance assessments, predictive analytics concepts, and preventive intervention recommendations.
1. Asset Program development and management
* Prepare and maintain strategic asset management plans and asset management plans to align with OPPD¿s asset management policy and framework as well as oversee the development by others.
* Establish methods to evaluate and forecast individual and asset class health, risk, and reliability to inform asset and investment strategies.
* Coordinate and drive schedule and scope accountability in the accomplishment of the Asset Management Plans for Energy Delivery Assets.
2. Budgeting and Planning
* Work and collaborate with Engineering, Finance, Operations, Customer Service and other Departments to leverage asset management data for developing replacement programs, project planning, and financial forecasting for short, intermediate and long term forecasts.
3. Performance Improvement, Analytics, and Technology
* Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies in utility asset management, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
* Effectively develop and deploy innovations such as unmanned aircraft/drones to collect and analyze visual, infrared, and orthographic information.
4. Act as the SME supporting T&D asset management across the organization with development, approval, and revision of asset management plans, equipment lifecycle evaluations, condition inspections, technical and economic calculations, remediation contract specifications, as assigned.
* Lead, support, and provide the operations and maintenance critical support for the assessment and restoration of transmission lines damaged due to storms or other significant events including after-hours support.
5. Assist manager with the day-to-day coaching, feedback, reporting, performance evaluation and assignment of work priorities/workloads for team members. (As Assigned By Manager; 40% or less of role)
* In the absence of management, evaluate workloads and priorities and assign appropriate resources to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of departmental products and services.
* Assist with the resolution of escalated issues, questions and work stoppage situations. (As assigned by or in absence of Manager)
* Monitor, coach and recommend additional training solutions for team members to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to be effective in role.
* Perform quarterly quality checks on job functions/individual outputs in area. Report findings to management quarterly.
* Act as a detailed Subject Matter Expert with regard to the work and roles of the team. Assist in the training of new staff and cross training of existing staff. (As Assigned by Manager)
* Provide input to the development of performance management documentation.
* Encourage design innovation and creativity.
* Participate with the department's coop program.
Qualifications
Required:
* ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with relevant maintenance program experience.
* Five years of applicable utility technical maintenance programs and field oversight experience.
* Demonstrated replace-in-kind assessment capability for utility energy delivery equipment and system condition evaluations.
* Registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Nebraska or means for reciprocity within six months.
* Knowledge and understanding of power delivery infrastructure (underground and overhead transmission, overhead and underground distribution, substation, network) design, operational criticality, and condition remediation methods.
* Strong working knowledge of OPPD work processes and computer systems
* Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated broad prospective across multiple engineering disciplines and a thorough industry knowledge
* Demonstrated perspective combining both technical and business attributes
* Demonstrated bias for action taking with a proactive response anticipating challenges.
* Demonstrated capability to lead, motivate, and develop technical team members including the ability to encourage diverse ideas and concepts and effectively deal with conflict.
* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, exercise flexibility and take responsibility for assigned work.
* Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously with frequent changing priorities
* Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a professional and respectful manner
* Advanced User MS Office Professional Skills (e.g., pivot tables, live data links, data parsing, OLE, SQL)
* A valid driver's license is required.
Desired:
* NACE CIP Level 1 Certification (five years of directly applicable experience in corrosion protection technology, outdoor and underground structure corrosion evaluation, coating preparation and application, and coating contract specification may be considered equivalent)
* FAA Part 107 Certification for Remote Pilot of unmanned aircraft or within six months from hire date.
* Master's degree in Engineering, or MBA with relevant asset management/lifecycle experience of Masters, minor, or certificate program level education in data analytics, mathematical modeling, or management information systems.
* Experience consolidating and interpreting multiple data sources to determine an optimized solution
* Working knowledge of ISO 55000
* Demonstrated capabilities of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and presenting recommendations.
* Thorough knowledge of OPPD¿s transmission, distribution, and substation systems.
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of analytics software such as Power BI, Python, Tableau, R, Machine Learning
* Familiarity and experience with Asset Suite, Cognos, PeopleSoft, and SharePoint.
