About the Job
As a Lead Estimator, you will play a crucial role in shaping the success of our foodservice projects by providing accurate and detailed cost estimates. The Lead Estimator is responsible for coordinating reviews of plans, equipment/supplies/services, and scope of work and assembling estimates for project costs. The position requires communication with internal team members, clients, consultants, architects, engineers and vendors regarding foodservice projects, equipment specifications and scope of work. The Lead Estimator must be self-motivated with high energy, and the ability to interact with numerous individuals, in multiple functions, within a dynamic and changing environment.
Responsibilities:- · Develop estimates based on design documents, specifications and scope of work for various projects
- · Register projects with Singer and communicate internally with enterprise estimating department(s)
- · Identify qualified subcontractors and vendors, generate interest in the project and obtain quotes required to complete the cost estimate
- · Analyze vendor promotions and recommend adjustments in strategy where possible to ensure maximum profitability and effectiveness; register for vendor specification credits
- · Prepare multiple bid proposals concurrently
- · Review design documents, specifications and vendor information for accuracy, consistency between documents and proposal compliance
- · Preparing an accurate scope of work for the bid, requesting clarifications on bid requirements where appropriate and maintain written documentation of responses
- · Prepare bid notes detailing deviations from bid documents
- · Upon award of project, hand projects off to Project Managers, providing written notes to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements and nuances learned during bid process
- · Communicate both internally and externally in areas such as estimating, procurement, project coordination, sales, customer, logistics, opening dates, timelines, etc.
- · Attend project meetings as required
Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Skills and Abilities:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Competencies:
- · 5 years’ experience in estimating food service equipment work
- · Ability to prepare accurate and complete estimates with minimal supervision.
- · Ability to utilize computer-based programs necessary to complete assigned tasks, including but not limited to AutoQuotes and Microsoft Office Suite applications
- · Effective interpersonal skills to successfully work with others in the organization
- · Attention to detail; highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
- · Exceptional work ethic with a focus on achieving goals and targets in a timely and complete manner
- · Highly driven and self-motivated; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- · Basic knowledge of general construction, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
- · Ability to read and understand manufacturers cut sheets, drawings and construction drawings and communicate layout and design requirements to others; understanding of utility connections required to ensure manufacturer specifications met and plans accurately reflect
- · Strong relationship building skills with customers, architects, engineers and vendors
- · Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- · Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
- · Possess integrity and ethical character
- · Ability to think creatively, critically and solve problems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires sitting for extended periods of time while operating a computer, standing, walking and moving throughout the office and telework environment; requires driving and valid driver’s license; talking; seeing (specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus); hearing; feeling; bending or stooping; squatting or crouching; reaching; kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting. In addition, job site visits may include walking or standing most of the time and requires frequent bending, stooping, and twisting (for example, taking field measurements).
WORKING CONDITIONS
The qualified candidate should be located in the Maryland, D.C., Virginia area with the ability to travel to the office located in Maryland. The candidate will be working in a hybrid model requiring time at the office as business needs require with telework when appropriate.
The core hours of this position are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However, some evening and weekend hours may be required to meet business demands. Job may require work to be performed on active construction sites where employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, loud noise, odors and other hazards commonly found on construction sites.
