Summary
The Lead for Medical Assistants assists the Director of Nursing with carrying out the tasks within the scope of a Licensed Practical Nurse, which includes both the Medical Assistant tasks and logistical tasks as assigned. The Lead for Medical Assistants assists with and performs all aspects of Medical Assistant duties and responsibilities, which includes medical and office support to Providers, Nurses and direct service personnel within the CODAC clinical setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities under the supervision and/or direction of Director of Nursing and/or CPHO:
- This role involves both assisting and training all team members and personally performing tasks to ensure the delivery of integrated care services to members, including but not limited to:
- Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing implements consistent and streamlined member care processes and reduces wait times.
- Assist with the training of new and existing employees.
- Provide back up support to the medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.
- Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- As part of an interdisciplinary team, participates in evaluation and assessment of members.
- Coordinates medical care with primary physician and other health care providers.
- Observes members behavior patterns and medical symptoms related to treatment. Reports assessment to prescribing clinician or clinical staff for follow-up.
- Performs nursing screening and assessments for members and reports findings with prescriber.
- the variety of customer service functions performed by Medical Assistants, including but not limited to answering medical assistant telephone line and medical assistant desk duty.
- delivery of integrated care services to members, in collaboration with clinical and other staff to address members needs.
- implementation and revision of integrated service plans; assures that services provided are specified in the integrated service plan and monitors progress toward treatment goals, crisis plans and coordinating of adult recovery teams.
- supports members to follow through on prescribed medical interventions and diagnostic testing.
- are being Informed and educated regarding the meaning and implications of test results and prescribed interventions, as per clinic protocol.
- assesses and addresses barriers to health.
- the initiation, researched, completes and faxes of communication documents as directed by BHMP or RN (i.e. Prior Authorizations, PCP Coordination and Disability Forms, etc.).
- Administers or facilitates administration of injections as order by Provider using Nextgen workflow for documentation and billing.
- Updates member medication list in Nextgen.
- Primary Care Provider (PCP) member rooming and discharge using PCP MA workflow as stated in PCP-MA Nextgen Manual. Including supporting PCP provider in confirming, rescheduling or canceling appointment, obtain medical records, results and completing orders,
- Behavioral Health Medical Provider (BHMP) member rooming for onsite or virtual onsite visit using Nextgen workflow to document and bill as appropriate. Including supporting BHMP in confirming, rescheduling, or cancelling appointment, obtain medical records, results, and complete orders.
- Performs various office duties, such as shredding document, filing and sorting mail, lab reports, faxes from pharmacies and completing task in boxes daily.
- Assessing and prioritizing members based on the severity of their conditions.
- Assist with recruitment, training, development and coaching of staff.
- Assist with training employees to improve service delivery expectations (SDE) and meet competency checklist requirements.
- Maintains 100% Compliance with organizational training requirements.
- Attends workshops related to position (Professional Training and Development policy).
- Performs other related activities in accordance with agency growth and changes
Education:
- High school diploma/GED required. Board Certified licensed practicing nurse
Experience:
- Three (3) years direct care experience with at least 2-year experience working in a clinical setting, skills in office duties, customer service, insurance and billing, and patient care.
Certifications:
- Must obtain/maintain Basic Life Support (BLS)
Licensure:
- Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Arizona Drivers license, proof of current insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record - no more than 2 moving violations or a license suspension in past 3 years.
- Familiar with and adheres to medical assistant scope of practice.
Additional Requirements
Skills:
- Bilingual a plus.
- Must have a commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Extensive knowledge of community resources.
- Extensive knowledge of behavioral health challenges which include knowledge of the impacts of mental illness, domestic violence, and the dynamics of addictive behavior.
- Familiarity with various ethnic and cultural groups.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc., importing/exporting data to/from applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
